FAA Helicopter Pilot Training - Accepting Students From the Greater Palm Beach Area ONLY
We teach the full range of FAA courses from Private Pilot through to Certified Flight Instructor. All of our instructors are experienced professional helicopter pilots who are able to impart their commercial flying experience and knowledge when teaching their students. Helicopters used for training are the Robinson two seat R-22 and the four seat R-44.

Here at Cloud 9 Helicopters all training will be tailored to your needs and time constraints. Whether you wish to train seven days a week or only when your schedule allows. We will work with you to achieve your dream of becoming a helicopter pilot.

We promise to make your training with Cloud 9 Helicopters as straight forward as possible. We coordinate everything from all of your educational materials, pilot supplies, accommodation, transportation, online flight scheduling, arranging your medical examination, scheduling a written test to booking your FAA flight test.


Programs
Instrument Rating (Helicopter)
An Instrument Rating is an invaluable addition to your Private Pilot Certificate regardless as to whether you intend to progress through to becoming a Professional Pilot or remaining as a Recreational Pilot. The Instrument Rating dramatically improves your flying ability and aeronautical judgement. You will be taught how to fly in fog, clouds and limited visibility. You will also develop the knowledge, skills and judgement required to safely and confidently evaluate adverse weather conditions together with learning to maneuver the helicopter by sole reference to it’s instrumentation.

Instrument Rating Eligibility

  • Hold at least a current Private Pilot Certificate with a Helicopter rating.

  • Able to read, speak, write and understand the English language.

  • Receive Flight Training and Logbook endorsements from an authorised Flight Instructor (At least 15 hrs of instrument flight training from an authorised Flight Instructor in helicopters).

  • Receive a Logbook endorsement from an authorised Instructor certifying that a course of training or home study has been completed.

  • Meet the following aeronautical experience requirements, a total of 40 hrs actual or simulated instrument time (including at least 15 hrs of flight instruction in helicopters). Have logged at least 50 hrs of cross-country flight time as Pilot-In-Command of which at least 10 hrs must be in helicopters (not required for Part 141 training).

  • Pass a written knowledge test (multiple choice questions).

  • Pass a practical flight test and oral exam with an FAA examiner.

  • Hold at least a Class 3 Medical Certificate.



Commercial Pilot License Eligibility and Requirements

  • Hold at least a Private Pilot Certificate.

  • Age 18 to receive a Commercial Pilot Certificate.

  • Able to read, speak, write and understand the English language.

  • Receive Logbook endorsement from the instructor who conducted the ground training or reviewed the applicants home study course.

  • Pass a written knowledge test (multiple choice questions).

  • Receive flight training and Logbook. endorsements from an authorised Flight Instructor (150 hrs total flight time of which 100 must be in powered aircraft and 50 must be in helicopters which must include at least 20 hrs of dual training, 35 hrs of Pilot in Command, 10 hrs of cross country flight, and 5 hrs of solo night flying experience.

  • Meet all of the experience requirements listed in FAR 61.127 (c).

  • Pass the required practical test and oral examination with an FAA examiner.

  • Hold at least a Class 2 Medical Certificate in order to exercise Commercial Pilot privileges.

  • The Commercial Pilot training program may be completed solely in the R22 or R44 or indeed a combination of both types.



Private Pilot License Eligibility and Requirements

  • Age 16 to become a Student Pilot, 17 to become a Private Pilot - Rotorcraft.

  • Able to read, speak, write and understand the English language.

  • Pass a written knowledge test (multiple choice questions).

  • Receive Flight Training and Logbook endorsements from an authorised Flight Instructor (Minimum 40 hrs flight time to include at least 30hrs dual instruction and 10 hrs solo flight).

  • Meet certain experience requirements for example cross country and night flying.

  • Pass a practical flight test and oral exam with an FAA examiner.

  • Hold at least a Class 3 Medical Certificate.



Financial Assistance for Veterans (GI Bill)

In order for students to receive benefits from the GI Bill, a school must not only conduct flight training under FAA-Approved Part 141, but must also be approved by the Federal Department of the Veteran's Affairs (VA).

For qualified individuals, the VA will pay up to 100 percent of the training costs. For some students this is a benefit package of up to $80,000.00.
