commercial helicopter pilot license with tenth certificate
As long as you are older than 18 you can get a CPL. Other than being able to pass the required tests there is no educational requirement.

is it possible to get commercial helicopter pilot license after tenth class?
Friday, January 14th, 2011What is the best flight school in Phoenix, Az to become a commercial helicopter pilot?
Wednesday, January 5th, 2011Hi I’m new in Arizona, Phoenix, I would like to get commercial helicopter license, can anyone suggest the best flight school in Phoenix? How long will it take normally from beginning of tranning till getting job?
Gold coast in Glendale is a good place. They had a Cessna that I used to rent from them, so I spent a lot of time with them. I never flew in one of their helicopters, but I did get to know a lot of the instructors there and they are all a bunch of good guys. Their business policies are great also. They are involved (or at least a few years ago were) with a bunch of commercial helicopter operations doing things like filming for movies and tv shows, they had a few over seas contracts also. The flight school was not a money making venture for them (they didn’t loose money either), it was more of a passion of the owner to help out people wanting to learn to fly helicopters. A big plus to this type of company is you have a foot in the door with the company. You may not get a job with them when you are done, but knowing people in the industry opens other doors for you.
I have flown at a lot of different places and this honestly is one of the best places you can end up at. Do your research, but do check them out.
Can I get a commercial helicopter license with a dui still in court?
Sunday, January 2nd, 2011I have a DUI on my record from 2001. I also just got a dui in dec. of 2008, but its still going through court. I was planning on going to a commercial helicopter training school in Salt Lake City, but I don’t know if the FAA will even give me an ok to get a license. The school said I would probably have to wait a year after I get convivted for the most recent DUI. But the FAA told me it didn’t matter, and that I would just have to go through more steps as far as an evaluation with a therapist and all that jazz. What is true and what isn’t. Should I wait till my DUI goes through court then get a medical exam, or should I just apply and have my medical exam done and go from there and just be honest with them even though I havn’t been convicted of the dui yet. Also will I even be able to get hired as a commerical helicopter pilot with 2 dui’s on my record? I have been told I will, and I won’t. I just don’t know. please help
The above are quite accurate. Having 1 DUI is not a career ender… usually you can get away with saying you were young and stupid. Having 2 is a huge red flag to the FAA, any company, and quite honestly most pilots. It’s difficult to say that this was just a stupid mistake– anybody will counter "didn’t you learn from the first one?" What makes a good pilot is not stick and rudder hand flying skills (althouh you do need to have a certain amount)… a good pilot is good at making decisions. Obviously your decision making skills are questionable at best- think about that before you do any flying.
The only thing I can recommend for your DUI problem (although I don’t recommend you pursue this career) would be to get a good lawyer and hopefully get it knocked down to a reckless. That’ll take a darn good lawyer though– you have a history of drunk driving.
My recommendation: I wouldn’t spend a dime on flight training if I were you. There are way too many pilots out there without DUI’s looking for those same jobs. Very few companies will take the gamble on you- and the ones that do are probably marginal companies at best. Also, get some help. Join AA. Do something. There really isn’t an excuse for this.
How long does it take to get a commercial helicopter pilot’s license?
Thursday, December 30th, 2010I’m looking at attending Colorado Vertical Helicopters. I was wondering how long does it usually take to obtain a commercial pilot’s license? And I’m *NOT* talking how many flight hours it takes, I already know that. About how much time, day to day life kind of thing, does it take? Around 6 months? Longer? Shorter? If it helps any, here’s a link to the site: http://www.coloradovertical.com/index.html
How long it will take depends on how frequently you fly. How often you fly will depend on three things: your schedule, the flight school’s schedule, and the availability of funds. You need to do some planning ahead of time to figure out how often you can fly based on your schedule and your funding. You should also make sure that the school will have the availability you need to fly when you want to.
For a basic estimate, just divide the number of hours by how many hours you plan to fly per week. So if you fly one hour per week, that’s about three years. If you fly three hours per week, that’s about a year.
If you are training full time (i.e. you are not working or anything), you should reasonably be able to finish in 6-8 months even after you include some extra time for CFI and CFII ratings. I do recommend that you pad your estimates a little bit to account for written tests and other ground studies. You also never know when you will get a period of bad weather, some maintenance delays at the school, something in your own life, or whatever else to cause you to spend some additional time.
It took me 8 months to go from 0 to CFI/CFII training full time.

Have any military veterans used the Post 9/11 GI Bill to get a commercial helicopter pilot license?
Saturday, December 18th, 2010I’ve heard that Guidance helicopters has joined w/ Yavapai College in Prescott, AZ to offer a degree program. Has anyone looked into this, or been through the training?
I wanted to use my GI Bill to become a commercial pilot but found that it wouldn’t pay for the private license that you need in order to start commercial rating.
So basically, you have to pay for your own private license before you can use it.
A private license is considered "recreational" and not considered a career path by GI Bill.
If I had it to do all over again, I would have tried to knuckle down and get the money somehow to finish the private license no matter what.
good luck. I hope you make it.
is 40000 worth getting a helicopter commercial license?
Wednesday, December 15th, 2010
Average salary for a helicopter pilot in the US is 78K.
As a comparrison … you can get your helicopter license in under two years and make 78k. A teacher goes to school for 5 years, probably spends more to get the education, and makes 40K.
How much does it cost to get a commercial helicopter license?
Sunday, December 12th, 2010
^You do not need to do airplane training first. In fact, doing airplanes first will only add to your costs if you really just want to fly helicopters. There is nothing wrong with flying airplanes, and you can do them both. Just don’t use one solely as a stepping stone for the other.
From Helicopter Academy’s own website:
"The commercial pilot course is for *private helicopter pilots* who wish to continue their flight training"
Training Requirements (Civilian, US):
You will undergo flight and ground training, a flight physical, written tests, and practical tests. A private helicopter certificate takes 40 hours minimum flight time, and a commercial certificate takes 150 hours minimum. An instrument rating requires 40 hours. The most efficient way is to complete this rating while working on your commercial. The average student is often able to finish private, instrument, and commercial ratings within the 150 hours, assuming consistent training.
Costs:
Flight time is the bulk of the expense. Check rates in your area. Flight schools in my area are above average for the US and run about $275 per hour. If your average instruction rate is $275/hr., then 150 hours will cost $41,250. Your books, ground lessons, supplies, written tests, CFI/CFII (flight instructor) training, etc. will be in addition to that. Furthermore, many flight schools will require some minimum experience before they hire you as an instructor, between 200 and 300 hours. Some or all of the additional time may come out of your pocket as well. $275 x 200 = $55,000 + some of the expenses mentioned above.

How much would it cost to get a private and commercial helicopter license?
Thursday, December 9th, 2010I know it depends on area and flight hours but just a ballpark figure and explanation will be fine
See my previous answer to your question for fixed wing aircraft for single engine private and commercial licenses and multiply by a factor of 1.5 to 2.0
